here comes baby E a bit early n with a surprise

Eva’s birth story 3-9-10 Well after what seemed like a long in some ways but short in others pregnancy, Baby E decided to come early. Dr. and I had planned a c-section on St. Patty’s Day. Though my due date was March 26^th. Normally a c sect ion is scheduled a week early and seems like EVERYBODY in my immediate family has a 17 or 18the bday except Alexus which is 7 close enough. N wouldn’t it be lucky to have a st. patty baby. Well, she had other plans. She at least waited til my gg carlson's big 90th bday party was over last Sat. The week before after walking for exercise I started very minor contractions just random ones n instructed not to walk anymore unless I wanted to go early. I was only 30% effaced and .5cm dilated. I was suppose to work through the week this week and actually had another ob appt on the following day but about 9:30pm after Alexus went down I started pretty painful transactions. But they were low in my pelvic area. N felt someone maybe was twisting my lower intestine for about 15 seconds every 2 to 4 minutes. After two hours, I called by ob. She said it was probably braxton hicks b/c my abdomen wasn’t really tightening (at least it didn’t feel that way to me). I could go to hospital but likely she said send me home if water hadn’t broken.Well Bill kept falling asleep so finally I asked if he took something to help sleep and he had. Oh, great then how could he get me to hospital w/o risking falling asleep at wheel and I really didn’t want to wake n take alexus if it was false labor. With Alexus I had no doubt my water broke but when I pottied this time I felt more of a trickle of it maybe. At about midnight I thought I couldn’t stand it and drive myself but I would fall asleep like for a minute n half then pop up in pain. Well at 2AM, i really couldn’t stand n thought no way could I not be in labor in this much pain so often for so long. I called my neighbor Jennifer and we leave 10 min later w/o waking bill. I knew he’d be mad. Jennifer was great and she truly thought I was in labor. We got there n straight up to L&D into a room and one of the first things is they check my water for breakg and sure enough it had. They checked my cervix and I was like a 6 cm dilated already. I couldn’t believe it. They asked if I wanted c section still then they’d call my ob in. she got there checked me and said under these circumstances I had the option of could have baby naturally. I was shocked. She said once she fully broke my water maybe gave me bit of potosin I’d be there in no time. Jennifer said I’d probably push like 15 min and with epi it wouldn’t be a big deal n dr. said maybe an hour of pushing and another hour to get fully dilated b/c I was completely effaced. So I had another choice and w/ bill decided to go for it. The epi and getting an iv was the hard part. Boy, did that hurt n I almost fainted and quit (changed my mind to c-section) but I had to do this part either way n knowing after so long of pushing or not I could changed to c sect helped. i finally got the epi after my blood pressure n baby’s heartbeat got really low when I thought I was going to faint. epi was much better than last time cause I could actually feel my legs and move them. With alexus I was totally paralyzed waist down with it. Maybe b/c the epi slowed down my contractions as they had last time or the little bp drop, we laid there about 2 hours (at least with zero pain) Of course didn’t sleep as bill did. About 7am they came back in and gave me the potosin. Guess my ob went home n showered. About 8 they came in and said we are ready to start pushing. I think I was still not fully dilated to a 10 but when they came I pushed with the nurse. Held my breath and legs and pushed. It was hard to do since you can’t feel much. I did for about 40 min and dr. Collins came in. I said what was she doing could they see her hair and it was a lot and dark. Said she kind of slip down n move back up. Finally dr. came in and gave me more potosin and coached me. N they had 4 nicq nurses standing by b/c baby had pooped in the blood or whatever early when I almost fainted. About 9 am dr. said we are getting her out n I dind’t feel like I could really push that much more. N bill got to watch was happening. N it really wasn’t that hard of work like you see in the movies. I was more out of breath from holding than anything. So she got the vacuum for that last time so she when she came out she wouldn’t slip back in after I had pushed. she Took her out and they she was with a very light cry and rattly. She looked exactly like Alexus did. N daddy cut the cord. They cleaned her up n put her on me I wish we got more of that on video. She was fine they say. She was so dark red out of the uterus but cleaned up great. She has lots of dark hair but not as much as Alexus. As dr. gave me a few sitiches, they weighed and measured, gave shots, She is 7.0 and 18.75 inches just a bit smaller than Alexus. Alexus was 7.11 n 19.something inches but she cooked a week longer. Funny how both came the night before an appt and exactly a week earlier than due/scheduled. Ashley the LD nurse was so great, attentive and the best coach. N ironic the other nurse assisted labor was Naperville, il too. So here I am in between pushes talking bout the white sox n stuff. Just never thought it would have been so easy and the hard part was the labor pains at the house but had I not waited and had them came here n got epid we’d may be in the same place as alexus were labor stalled and c-section. I’m proud of myself..It so much better for everybody and recovery. Meanwhile, Brent n Katelyn came over to watch Alexus while Bill drove to hospital n got there about 5am right before dr. He wasn’t happy I left him but I knew it would have been dangerous for him to drive. Jennifer left about 6am n they went to breakfast at snooty pig together before taking girls to school. That is so awesome to have friends and neighbors like that. I had nothing with me but a jacket shoes n my robe. Bill went home showered, picked up some stuff n brought Alexus. I wanted her to walk in and see the me holding baby but was disappointed that they had taken her to nursery to get her pedi evaluation but the dr. wasn’t even there yet so alexus went with her daddy to get her from nursery so I didn’t get to see the initial reaction. But alexus was thrilled when she came in the room before getting baby and thrilled and just starred at her while I fed her. Like the rest of us, she’s a little shocked. My mom was there too and around 7pm they left baby and I for rest. I slept decent got about 4 hours before the first late night feeding but baby was fussy til about 5am then got another hour b/4 they took my blood. God is an awesome God and he has answered lost of prayers for us recently. She is beautiful and healthy and couldn’t be happier. N breastfeeding is even going better so far. Yeah. Daddy is proud n so cute with such a tiny baby. Alexus got to hold baby last night n we took some great pics.
